Inspiration: Neo traditional and bold line work tattoos by Black rabbits and ruby
Get to know neo traditional tattoo artist Hannah, @blackrabbits_andruby, guesting at The Good Fight Tattoo, May 12th - 14th, 2022.
“My name’s Hannah, I am a tattooer living in Falmouth, Cornwall currently in my van. My dream is to travel in my van and tattoo at different studios as a guest artist with my little dog , Panko.
I started tattooing back in 2017 in a little studio called Sailors rehab under an artist called Al Williams where I learnt a lot about coil machines, watched him do everything from day one, swept floors. Unfortunately, a year into my apprenticeship they had to close the studio due to financial issues and I was left redundant. From there I went on search for a new studio in Falmouth that would have me, and continued to tattoo grapefruits / myself where I could to keep my practice up.
I found a studio, and since then I have worked in 4 different studios around Cornwall, and various different guest spots around the UK.
I would love to travel to Europe at some point and work out there for a bit too! I love different cultures and how this also affects the tattoo industry.
The person who influenced me the most when I first started my tattooing journey was Hannah Snowdon, and Hannah Flowers (weirdly we have the same name which I think I was subconsciously drawn to!) for different reasons. I admired Snowden’s desire for travelling on the job, meeting new creatives and people as that modified her tattoo style and growth.
I admired flowers for her beautiful colours and portraits, and her imagination in those creations.
I would say these days I fit into the wide scale variety that is ‘neo traditional’ , focusing on bold lines, neutral colours, and black line work.
I love a bit of whip shading also! And experimenting with blackwork (filled in areas of black) to create depth within my work.”
